About us

Amphorhea: A Ceramic Workshop and Social Enterpris where pottery professionals impart their expertise to children and youth with developmental disabilities, guiding them in the creation and decoration of pottery. The workshop produces a range of products, including dishes and souvenirs, which are available for purchase at the Amphorhea store.

The workshop’s name draws inspiration from Greek mythology, combining two significant terms: amphora and Rhea. An amphora is an ancient, two-handled clay vessel—the primordial precursor to modern pottery. Meanwhile, Rhea, the great mother of Greek cosmogony, gave birth to the gods of Olympus. Thus, Amphorhea symbolizes an enterprise that blends practicality with altruism.

Amphorhea, established in 2018 by the women’s organization Rhea, receives crucial support from the Life Tree Foundation of the Bank of Georgia. As a pivotal player in the social integration and rehabilitation of children and young people with disabilities, Rhea (founded in 2001) relies on Amphorhea as one of its essential tools.

Since its inception, Amphorhea has benefited over fifty individuals. Its activities extend beyond the capital city of Tbilisi to the Samtskhe-Javakheti region, encompassing towns such as Aspindza, Akhaltsikhe, and Akhalkalaki.

Ceramics professionals and specialists dedicated to working with children with developmental disabilities actively participate in the Amphorhea initiative.
